One in six women still victims of physical or sexual violence at the hands of partners

The latest figures come from the first comprehensive report by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare looking at sexual, family and domestic violence in Australia.

BaptistCare’s client, Mikayla, spoke with SBS News about her experience with domestic and family violence, while our General Manager Rob Ellis discussed the effects of domestic violence on children and how this issue affects indigenous communities.

“Particularly for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, recognising the complex web of disadvantage that they are being held back by, and finding ways with them, to work through that,” Rob Ellis told SBS.
